The purpose of this blog is to keep a journal of our learning over the next couple of months. I intend to reflect on what we are covering in class as we go. I will also put up links to other sites which you may find useful. Please use the comment function at the end of each post to contribute on any aspect of this unit.
The purpose of the communication unit is to help you develop a range of oral and written communication skills.
In particular, you will be summarising and evaluating complex texts; preparing and taking part in meetings; and writing formal reports.
We will start off by looking at some complex texts (eg. reports). You will be required to summarise and evaluate these.
In the second half of the course, you will do some research based around a major event which you will choose. You will research the social, economic and political impact of that event. As part of the meeting assessment you will be required to discuss to sources (eg. websites) which you found useful for your research. This will help prepare you for the final assessment: the report, which will contain the findings of your research.
This report will also, partially, count towards an assessment for your Events unit which you do with Caroline Paterson.
